James C. O'Connor of Salem, son of the late Christopher and Carmel O'Connor of Nahant, passed away peacefully while in the spectacular care of the staff at Mass General Cardiac Unit. He is loved and survived by his wife of 51 years Joan, daughter and son Karen and Christopher, and grandson George LeVasseur, all of Salem. He is also loved and survived by his siblings Christine Howard of Nahant, Timmy and Nina O'Connor of Nahant, Linda and John Christensen of Quechee VT, sister-in-law Diane O'Connor of Nahant. He is also loved and survived by his wife's siblings and their spouses, Thomas and Jan McGrane of Georgetown, Sandra and Robert Barbiarz of Nashua NH, Carol and Larry Gillis of Elliot ME, and Gail and Joseph Markowicz of Salem, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers John and Patrick of Nahant, as well as his niece Sharon Barbiarz.
Jim served in the U.S.M.C. after attending schools in Nahant, followed by high school at St. Mary's in Lynn. He then went on to become a Jet Engine Mechanic at Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, CT. After moving home, he served on the Nahant Fire Department for several years before finding comfort inside the cab of his 18 wheeler where he ran his own trucking business. His love of athletics never slowed, especially his many stories of softball while growing up in Nahant.
Services will be held at Murphy's Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. Salem MA. Visiting hours are Wednesday March 20 th , 4-8pm. A funeral service will be held at 11am Thursday March 21 st at Murphy's Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Nahant, MA.
