James R. "Jim" Hosman, age 77, longtime business management consultant, ardent Community activist, church leader and former Salem City Assessor and Salem City Councilor, died Friday after a long and courageous battle with heart problems. He was the loving husband and self confessed soul mate of Claire M. (Rafferty) Hosman for 56 wonderful years, and proud father of James Gerard Hosman and the late Stephen John Hosman.

Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late William F. "Pepper" Hosman and Beatrice E. (Leahy) Hosman, his ancestors were born In Carraghtuhil and Glenmire, Ireland and emigrated from County Cork.

Jim's greatest passion in life was spending quality time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather; and will always be cherished and missed by his loving wife, son and daughter-In-law and grandchildren. Besides his wife Claire and Son James, he Is survived by a daughter-In-law Stephanie L. (Pierce) Hosman, three grandchildren; Catherine Elizabeth Hosman, Patrick James Hosman and Luke Stephen Hosman all of Middleton; Three brothers Francis J. Hosman and his wife Kay of Salem, Albert L. Hosman of Wantagh, NY and Thomas J. Hosman and his wife Betty of Peabody and many adoring nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Stephen J. Hosman and his brother William J. "Pinky" Hosman.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St, Salem), to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00PM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
