James "Jim" R. Hayes, age 67, of Seabrook, NH, died unexpectedly on July 3, 2012 following injuries sustained in an automobile accident in New Hampshire.

Born in Salem,and also a long time resident, he was the son of Doris (LeTarte) Hayes and the late Robert Hayes, he attended local elementary schools, graduated from Bishop Fenwick High School and had attended Northeastern University. Mr. Hayes had a lifelong passion for baseball. As a young athlete he played in the Salem Little League for the Red Sox. During his adult years, he enjoyed his time being involved with the Shriners and the Local Teamsters Union.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved the ocean, boating and fishing. He had a love for cars, gardening and working in his yard. Most of all loved entertaining his grandchildren and being with his family. He had a zest for life and enjoyed bringing a spark to all that he spent time with.
Mr. Hayes began his career at Beverly Chemical and was later employed by Tannin Corp in Peabody until his retirement. More recently Mr. Hayes was a part time bridge tender at the Neil Underwood Bridge in Hampton, NH which he really loved and enjoyed the time spent with his coworkers.

He is survived by his children James Hayes of Salem and Christine Boutilier and her husband Robert of Peabody; four grandchildren Tyler and Brandon Boutlier of Peabody and Isaac and Gaidge Hayes of Salem; his sister Linda Serpa and her husband David of Peabody, three nieces and one nephew Marc, Michelle and Kerri Beaulieu and Kelly Dejesus all of Salem and several great nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 10:00AM in the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St.(cor of North St ) Salem at AM . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to a charity of their own choice.
