Retired Marblehead Police Department Inspector James F. Elliott age 71 of Marblehead died Thursday, March, 24, 2011 in North Shore Medical Center , Lynn .

Born in Cambridge , Ma the son of the late Henry and Louise (Durant) he was raised in the Mission Hill section of Boston . Following High School Inspector Elliott joined the US Air Force and was stationed in Korea . Following his discharge he was appointed to the Marblehead Police Department in 1961. He was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division and was recognized by the Massachusetts State Senate in 1983 for solving a burglary ring case. As a member of the Essex County Drug Task Force he was also recognized as a fingerprint expert. In 1991 he retired as an Inspector.

In his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, building dollhouses, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. A true character and practical joker he was well known for his great sense of humor.

He is survived by five children, James F. Elliott, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Overland Park, KS, Gretchen Sionkiewicz and her husband Dan of Marblehead, Robert Elliott and his wife Amy of Waltham, Sarah Tierney and her husband Chief Warrant Officer 2 Michael Tierney Jr. of Marblehead and Christopher Elliott of Lynn, Ma; eight Grandchildren Keegan, Grace and Cullen Elliott of Overland Park, KS, Nicholas and Emma Sionkiewicz of Marblehead, Kira Elliott of Waltham, MA and Kaylie Elliott and Hannah Tierney of Marblehead. Survived by siblings Nancy Baldasarre, Margaret Foster, Sandra Elliott, predeceased by Claire Carranza, Robert Elliott, Patricia Kearns, George and Paul Elliott.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 30. 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. , (corner of North St .) Salem . Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery , Marblehead .
