James Henry Drago, age 86, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2024. A beloved coworker, neighbor, and friend, Jim lived a life marked by dedication, service, and kindness.

Born in Salem in 1937 to Louis Drago and Margaret (Murphy), both of whom preceded him in death, Jim served his country as a cook in the United States Army for several years. His commitment to nourishing both body and spirit was evident in every meal he prepared.

After his honorable service, Jim embarked on a successful career as a salesman for the C.F. Mueller Company, where he worked for over 20 years as a sales representative. Known for his warm personality and genuine interest in others, Jim formed lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike.

After retiring, Jim continued to be an active member of his community. He worked as a security guard at the Peabody Essex Museum for nearly 30 years, where he enjoyed being surrounded by art and history while ensuring the safety of visitors and exhibits. Jim also continued to serve his country as a proud member of the Second Corps Cadets Veterans Association.

Jim was a man who found joy in making others smile. He loved telling jokes and had a knack for bringing laughter into any room he entered. His sense of humor was a cherished trait that brightened the lives of those around him.

Jim will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him and the many lives he touched with his generosity, warmth, humor and enduring spirit.

Visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, Salem MA on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm.  A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 21 at 10am at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, 1 Margin St, Peabody MA followed by an interment at St. Mary's cemetery in Salem MA.

Friends and loved ones are all welcome to attend to honor Jim's memory and to share stories of his life.
