Jacqueline M. Williams (Graves), of Marblehead passed away peacefully on August 8, 2021 at her son, David's, home.
Born on April 20, 1924 to Emerson A. and Hazel (Ohman) Graves, she was a life-long resident of Marblehead. She was predeceased by her husband Donald R. Williams in 1969 and her brother Fred Graves. She is survived by her four sons, Donald Jr. (Cynthia), Eric (Patricia), and Kent, all of Marblehead and David (Sharon) of Salem as well as grandsons Michael (Margaret), Nathaniel (Gretchen) and Dylan. She is also survived by her brother Emerson A. Graves, Jr. of Marblehead.
Jacqui lived a very active life with a variety of jobs from working in the Town Treasurer's and Harbormaster's Offices to doing disaster relief for the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). Working well into her 80's at the Massachusetts Department of Health, she traveled the state promoting children's health care with the DPH Youth at Risk program. A congregant at St. Michael's Episcopal Church her entire life, she was active in the St. Catherine's Guild and the guild's thrift shop.
A stalwart of the Massachusetts Republican Party she was active in a number of political entities. First elected in 1972, she served 16 years representing the 1 st Essex District on the Republican State Committee of Massachusetts and was a primary candidate for state representative. She was appointed to two terms on the Trustees of Danvers State Hospital by Governor Frank Sargent. One of her proudest political accomplishments was serving as a Presidential Elector for Ronald Reagan in 1980.
Locally she served on the Marblehead Board of Registrars; she was elected to the Marblehead Housing Authority and served as the Authority's Chairman. She served in several leadership positions in the Essex County Women's Republican Club and was a dedicated member of the Marblehead Republican Town Committee up until her passing.
A funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 26 Pleasant St., Marblehead on Saturday, August 28 at 11:00 A.M. followed by collation at the church. The service will be streamed on St. Michael's You Tube channel. A private burial service will follow later.
