Jacqueline L. "Jackie" Tompkins, age 85 of Salem, died Wednesday morning, December 28, 2011in the Jesmond Nursing Home, Nahant following a lengthy illness.
She was born and raised in Beverly, the daughter of the late Woodbury and Dorothea (Burkinshaw) Tompkins. Once she completed her education, Jackie became employed by Sylvania for many years until she joined Raytheon. Later in life she enjoyed working in Salem's local restaurants beginning at Nancy Lee's Restaurant and eventually retired from the Crystal Luncheonette where she had many friends.
She was an avid bingo playing regularly at both St. Joseph's Church and St. John the Baptist in Salem.
She is survived by a son Peter George Tompkins of Salem with whom she had resided, a brother Woodbury Tompkins of Salem; two sisters, Nancy Welch of West Newbury and Karen "Kay" Hancock of Salem and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters June Keck and Beverly Ann Klock.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 10:30 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St) Salem, Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
