Irving C. Felton, age 77, loving husband of Joanne (Sciucco) Felton, a life long resident of Salem, died early Tuesday morning, May 1, 2012, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House Danvers.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Salem Fire Dept Lieutenant, Charles "Pete" and Leona (Kiley) Felton. He was raised on Federal St, educated in local schools playing sports at Mack Park and the May St Playground. A graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1953, he was a member of both the "Witches" Football and Baseball teams.
A United States Army veteran, Mr. Felton became employed by the City of Salem Park Department in 1959 and retired as a Foreman in 1999. The center of his life was his wife and children. If he wasn't working he was with his family. Always happy, he took great pride and joy in coaching his children's Pony League Baseball, Salem Senior League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball as well as Salem Midget Football. He later enjoyed watching his grandchildren's youth and college sports, a friendly cribbage game and watching the Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Felton is survived by a daughter Caroline Garabedian and her husband Scott and their children Melissa and Douglas all of Salem; four sons, William Felton and his wife Michelle and their daughter, Jillian and her three children Jordan, Jayce and Cory; Richard Felton and his wife Sharon and their daughter Jessica all of Salem; David Felton and his wife Susan and their two children Samantha and Sarah of Lynn and Charles Felton and his wife Gena of Salem and their two children Ashley of Salem and Christopher and his wife Erin on Newton; four sisters, Barbara Harlow of Kingston, NH, Ann Starke of Peabody, Pat LeClerc of Salem and Karen Bettencourt of Salem and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Cynthia Morneau and a sister Shirley Vassy.
His funeral will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 10:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St) Salem followed by a funeral mass at St. James Parish at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery Salem.
