Salem……

Irene G. (Sweeney) Plutnicki, age 91, devoted wife of the late Matthew "Shorty" Plutnicki of Salem died at home Monday morning.

Born in Salem the daughter of the late William and Florence (Dube) Sweeney, she, was educated at St. James Grammar School. Following her graduation from ST. James High School, Mrs. Plutnicki married her late husband and began a family.

Dedicated to her family, she was a stay at home for many years. Later in life she became employed for over 25 years in the candy department of F.W, Woolwoorth Co in both their Salem and Beverly locations until her retirement. Everything she did was about her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mrs. Plutnicki is survived by two children a son , Ronald and his wife Mary (Muse) Plutnicki of Berlin, MA, their children Paul of Attleboro, MA Robert and his wife Cindy and their daughters Sarah and Katherine all of Upton, MA; a daughter Patricia Thornell R.N. and her husband David of Salem, their daughter Lindsay of Salem and two sons David Thornell and his wife Emeline and their children Sydney, Aidan and Justin of Summit, NJ.; and Dean Thornell and his wife Darcy and their sons Cameron and Collin all of Wake Forest, NC; a sister Lillian Sweeney of Salem and a brother John Sweeney of Newington, NH and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers Stephen and Wilfred Sweeney and a sister Frances Sweeney.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 10:15A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North ST) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in ST James Church, 161 Federal ST., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
