Irene Margaret (Kennedy) Hamson
Irene M. Hamson, age 88, of Marblehead, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Hamson, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2012.
Born in New York City on February 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Thomas and Edna (Lent) Kennedy, she was raised and educated in Marblehead. Mrs. Hamson enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children . After her children were grown, she worked for many years at Brown's Bakery in Marblehead, as a waitress. She loved knitting, baking, and most of all spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her ability to tell a great story and for her infectious laughter.
She is survived by a daughter Betty (Hamson) Gatchell and her husband, Ben of Marblehead; nine grandchildren, Ben Gatchell of Lebanon, ME, Beth O'Connor of Berwick, ME, Douglas Gatchell of Marblehead, Joshua Gatchell of Salem, Robert Elliott of Waltham, Sarah Tierney of Marblehead, Christopher Elliott of Boston, Fred Hamson and Shad Hamson of Depaulville, NY; a sister in law Carol Kennedy of Marblehead; a daughter in law Diane Hamson of Deapulville, NY thirteen great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert D. Hamson formerly of Depaulville, NY, a daughter, the late Deborah L. Elliott, formerly of Marblehead; ; a brother, Jerome Kennedy formerly of Marblehead, and three grandchildren, Robert, Thomas and Deanna Hamson all formerly of Depaulville, NY.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 12 Noon in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 86 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. At the family request, there are no visiting hours. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Heart Association, 20 Speen Street
