Obituary

Irene Fleming, wife of Maurice Fleming, died on September 21, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in Canea, Crete, Greece, and was the daughter of George and Arciros Fintikaki. Following her graduation from Canea Clasico High School, Mrs. Fleming went to Athens, Greece for College, and Camtisher for publish school.

Mrs. Fleming immigrated to the United States, and for her first six years in America she lived in Peabody, Mass. She was a member of St. Vasilios, also a member in the Philopthossos Athena and secretary for Greek language in the country. She finished three years of English school, and after the mandatory five year course, she became a US Citizen. She was a member of Dores Penelope and Axepa and Paneritiososietie in the US.

She worked for Sylvania CTE Electronics in the lighting division, development, and production. After she started working in Salem she moved from Peabody to her house on Scotia Street in Salem. While working at Sylvania she met many people that she would become very good friends with, including her future husband, Maurice. She was a long-time employee of Sylvania CTE, and Mr. and Mrs. Fleming continued their careers together at Sylvania, ultimately retiring together as members of the Sylvania Quarter Century club, with Mr. Fleming having worked there for 35 years, and Mrs. Fleming having worked for 32 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Fleming took an early retirement, and they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, and the Greek Islands, including the island of Crete where Irene was born. Mrs. Fleming's priority was her family. When they vacationed in Crete her parents had an open house for relatives and friends because Mr. and Mrs. Fleming was there. Mrs. Fleming never forgot the people she left behind to come to the United States. As soon as she could, she brought two families to the United States. Her brother's family Efstatios and Toanna Fintikaki and her sister's family Stella Andrea Drakakis. Mrs Fleming loved the United States, and would always say America is Beautiful.
