Hilda Gertrude Lee, age 97, passed on peacefully Friday, Sept. 22, at Sunrise at Gardner Park, where she had lived for the past 3 years. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Nina Lee. She was born in the family home in Salem, where she resided until moving to Sunrise at Gardner Park.
Hilda was a graduate of Pickering School and Salem High School, class of 1938. Before retirement she worked as a radio tube technician for Metcom, owned by the Coffin brothers. She also worked at the Salem Laundry Company after-hours during World War II. In addition to her career, Hilda loved to do home maintenance projects and housekeeping. She took pride in keeping her home spotless and the brass shiny.
As a life long member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Salem, she will be remembered for singing in the choir, serving at church fairs and bean suppers and being a faithful member of the congregation.
Hilda leaves behind her good friends, Betsey and Ed Bennett, who will miss her laughter, jokes and songs. She also leaves several cousins in England and the US, including Harold Corkum of Hampden, MA.
Besides her parents, Hilda was predeceased by five sisters, three of whom died during the influenza epidemic of 1918, Anna, Ruth, and Doris Lee, and Shirley E. Lee and Ardis L. Lee.
ARRANGEMENTS
Visiting hours will be held on Friday September 29, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located on 85 Federal St in Salem, MA. Funeral Services will begin after at 11:00 AM at the Murphy Funeral Home with burial following after at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Peabody, MA.
