Beverly ….
Reverend Herbert A. Fisher, age 88 years, husband of Helen F. (Hissong) Fisher, died early Thursday morning, April 21, 2011 at Blueberry Hill Health Care. Born in Ithaca, NY, son of the late Gilbert W. and Laura Salome (Johnson) Fisher, he was raised in Florida and Michigan. Reverend Fisher graduated from Marshall High School in Michigan. Following High School Reverend Fisher attended Manchester College in Indiana. After graduating from Manchester College in 1945, Reverend Fisher went on to Bethany Theological Seminary, graduating in 1949. Later he attended Garrett Theological Seminary and Yale Divinity School. For over fifty years of ministry, he served faithfully in South Central Indiana, Northern Indian, Southern Ohio, Northern Ohio, and in the Virginia District. Following his retirement in 1985, Reverend Fisher served as interim in Colorado and Kansas.

In addition to his pastoral work, Reverend Fisher had been District Conference Moderator in the districts and a District Board Member in Five. Reverend Fisher had also served on the General Assembly of the Councils of Churches in three states, Secretary for the Dayton Church Federation Board, the Chair of the Conference on Hunger and Malnutrition and the National Board Chair of the Institute of Industrial and Commercial Ministries, Inc. Throughout their lives, Reverend and Mrs. Fisher have worked for the love of the work and the betterment of the church. Personal recognition and income have never been at the top of their priority list. Reverend Fisher 'knew no fear" when it came to calling on individuals and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and the work of the church. His strong desire was to see the small congregation nourished, support for the local pastor and the necessity for teaching stewardship at all levels of the Church of the Brethren.
Also, Reverend Fisher was a member and past president of Kiwanis International and during his retirement served as Chaplin with Hospice in Missouri for ten years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Mark Fisher and his wife Malinda of St. Louis, Missouri; Janet Fisher of Beverly; Kathy Farris of Santa Fe, NM; twelve grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Susan Dukes and brother of the late Lewis and his twin Hugh Fisher.
