Danvers……

Helen Marion (Shelley) Beverley, age 85 of Salem died peacefully on January 8, 2010 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers of complications following a stroke.

She was born in June 18, 1924 in Philadelphia the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Held) Shelley. Mrs. Beverley was also raised and educated in Philadelphia graduating from Frankford High School in the Class of 1942. Following her graduation, she held various office positions, eventually becoming both a corporate and freelance draftswoman until marrying.

After her marriage to Allan Beverley in 1951, she traveled to various locations in the US and Canada as he pursued his career as an engineer. They settled in Danvers in 1960, where she devoted herself to raising a family and being active in town affairs. In April 1976, an American Flag was raised over the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. to recognize her contribution to the Danvers' bicentennial celebration.

Following her husband's death in 1979, she relocated to Salem in 1982. There she met E. Paul Fitzgerald, who remained her devoted companion until his death in 2003.

She is survived by her loving daughter Jan and her husband Andrew Boumil of Salem; two grandsons Chris Beverley of Arizona and Dan Beverley of Danvers; a sister in law Kathleen Shelley of Irvine, CA; a cousin Irma Peoples of Southampton, PA and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son Scott. D. Beverley and her siblings Doris Murphy, Jim, Jane, Jack and Billy Shelley.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. in the Calvary Episcopal Church, 46 Cherry ST (cor of Holten and Cherry St.) Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. At the family's request, there are no visiting hours.
