Peabody……

Helen Mary-Anne Sawitsky, R.N. age 88 formerly of Kirkland Road Peabody, died Tuesday morning in the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody.

A lifelong resident of Peabody she was born in Peabody the daughter of the late Metislaw and Mary (Maciejewski) Sawitski and attended Peabody schools Following her graduation from Peabody High School in the Class of1939 she began to pursue her nursing career at Beth Israel School of Nursing where she received her Bachelor's degree in 1943 and her Master's degree in 1953.

In 1959 Miss Sawitsky was appointed to the faculty of the Boston University School of Nursing, serving seven years in the graduate program. She was also the Associate Director of Nursing at Beth Israel Hospital and for 17 years was the Assistant Director of Nursing for Salem Hospital (North Shore Medical Center, Salem) until her retirement in 1985.

She had been a long time parishioner of St. Joseph Polish Church in Peabody until its closing at which time she joined St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

She was predeceased by a sister Anne Pauline Sawitsky.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home,. 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 260 North St, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be immediately before the funeral Friday from 9:00 A.M to 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home.
