Helen Pomakis, 86, cherished wife of the late James A. Pomakis, died peacefully April 5, 2016 at her Salem residence. Her loving children were at her side.
Born in 1929 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of Joe and Robert Anne Bradham. As a child Helen developed a love of learning and was valedictorian of her high school graduating class.
After graduating from nursing school, she enjoyed a successful nursing career. She was highly regarded by her colleagues and patients. She married her husband James and together they built the family home in Salem. There they raised their three children.
In addition to family life and nursing, Helen participated in community service. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and an American Heart Association volunteer. Her hobbies included writing poetry, baking, and Bible studies. She was skilled at sewing and crocheting.
Helen is survived by her children Donald, Jeffrey, and Caroline; also, by her sister Lucille and brother David. She had a great love for her family and friends and was loved by those around her. She will be dearly missed.
