Helen M. (Nickerson) Sweet, age 79, wife of the late George A. Sweet, Jr. of Marblehead, died Saturday evening, November 14, 2009 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by her family.



Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late Gardner H. and Marion A. (Graves) Nickerson, she was raised and educated in Boston. Following her graduation from High School, Mrs. Sweet was employed by Revenue Office of New England Telephone until marrying her late husband. A devoted wife and loving stay at home mom, she enjoyed her children and grandchildren. She became an active in Girl Scout with her daughters in 1962 and continued volunteering for over 50 years.



Mrs. Sweet also was very involved with the Margaret Winthrop Rebekah Lodge 163 and the Rebekah Assembly of MA, serving as Treasurer for several years. A member of the Friends of the Marblehead Council on Aging, Mrs. Sweet had been an active member of the Salem A.A.R.P.



She is survived by three Children Kenneth Sweet and his wife Tina, Kathy Sweet and Diane Palmer and her husband Gary; three grandchildren Miranda, Charlene, Sherri and 4 great grandchildren Courtney, Jacob, Teagan and Jackson.



She was predeceased by two brothers, Frank G. Nickerson and G. Arnold Nickerson.



Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 18 at 11:00 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Rebekah Assembly of MA, General Assembly Scholarship Fund, c/o Barbara Moore, 31 Grove St., Hudson, MA 01749.
