Salem….
Helen G. Linehan, age 91 of Salem, formerly of Winthrop St., Salem, died Saturday evening in the Rosewood Nursing Home, Peabody following an illness of several weeks.
A lifelong resident of Salem, she was born at home in Salem, the daughter of the late Daniel and Nellie J. (Buckley) Linehan. Miss Linehan had resided in the same home for nearly 92 years until becoming ill.
She was also a parishioner of St. James Church all of her life and had been educated in both St. James Grammar and High School. After completing her formal education at the Hawthorne Institute, a two year business school which had been located in Salem, Miss Linehan was employed by the Boston Gas Company in the Accounting Office for 43 years until her retirement in 1980.
An avid golfer, she had been a member of the Wenham Country Club and the Lothrop Club in Beverly. She also enjoyed bowling with her friends as well as gardening an travel.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Marie and her husband Kenneth Kirwin of Plymouth, Joseph and his wife Kathy Tully of Melrose, Tom and his wife Laura Tully of Lynnfield, Susan and her husband Jimmy Hicky of Wakefield, Richard and his wife Lynda Tully of Danvers, Peter Tully and his fiancé of Susan Powers of Beverly and Jim and his wife Patricia Linehan of San Antonio, TX and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a nephew William Tully.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:30A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00A.M. in ST. James Chapel 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be immediately before the funeral on Wednesday from 8:30A.M. to 9:30 A.M.
