Peabody….
Helen Hanley, age 92 a longtime City of Peabody school teacher, formerly of Danvers, died late Thursday evening in the Harborside Nursing Center, Wakefield.
Born and educated in Peabody the daughter of the late John and Cecelia (Regan) Hanley, Miss Hanley was gradated from Peabody High School. After receiving her teaching degree from Salem State Teacher's College Miss Hanley began what would become a 47 year teaching career with the City of Peabody.
A highly dedicated teaching professional, she taught both fourth and sixth grade at the South School for most of her career until retiring in 1990. Miss Hanley enjoyed music, dressing up and going dancing.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews Mary Dick of Fairfax, VA, Thomas McNichol of Framingham, John McNichol of Lynnfield, Helen Caron of Wakefield, RI, Deanna Stewart of Topsfield and Mary and Phillip Keane both of Hookset, NH 13 grandnieces and nephews and 17 ½ great grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Cecelia McNichol, Mildred Wallace and Marie Keane.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Margin St., (on the Salem Peabody Line) Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Monday from 4:00P.M. to 8:00 P.M. . Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. .
