Harry E. Tozier, age 81, husband of the late Edna A (Jodoin) Tozier of Danvers, died at the Seacoast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Gloucester following a lengthy illness.

Born in Patten, Maine, the son of the late Wilbert and Emily (Ellis) Tozier, he was raised and educated in Beverly graduating from Beverly High School, Class of 1949, where he was a Varsity Letterman in both Basketball and Baseball. He the attended Springfield Springfield College as a Physical Education Student Athlete playing basketball until serving in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 . Following his discharge, Mr. Tozier then continued his education at Boston University where he received both his Bachelor's Degree and his Masters Degree in Education.

Mr. Tozier had a distinguished career as a science teacher and as Head Basketball coach starting his career at Ellsworth High School in Maine. He continued his career for a brief time period at West Bridgewater High School and Masconomet High School. For most of his career as a science teacher he was employed by Manchester High and continued coaching for a while until his passion for baseball took over. For several years, Mr. Tozier was a Major League Baseball Scout for the Philadelphia Phillies traveling the county to locate professional Major League Baseball prospects. He valued the many friends he made and always looked forward to being home with his loving wife. In addition to being home with his wife he was an assistant with the Beverly Baseball Clinic as well as helping and guiding student athletes in the Cape Ann League through college recruiting process.

Mr. Tozier is survived by a sister Janice Costello of Pinehurst, NC; .two cousins Hollis Tozier and his wife Marianne of Ipswich and Dorothy Schuette of Spring Hill, FL;four nephews David Costello and his wife Meg, John Costello, Robert Costello, and Thomas Costello and his wife Heidi; a niece Susan Bellew and her husband Patrick and many grandnieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem. Relatives and friends are respectufully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
