Obituary

Harry W. Smith Jr., 73, of Largo, Florida formerly of Marblehead, MA died at his residence on February 12, 2009 after fighting a 13 year battle with cancer. His family was at his bedside.

Born in Cambridge, the son of the Harry W. Smith Sr. and Mary Sparks Smith,
he moved to Marblehead as a young boy. Mrs. Smith attended Marblehead schools and was graduated from Marblehead High School in 1953. He was in the US Navy and was a Korean War Veteran serving aboard the USS Sullivan. During his illness, he "stayed the course."

Upon leaving the Navy he went to work for the United Shoe Co. of Beverly, MA. At "The Shoe" he was an expert welder until they relocated to Wilmington, MA where he accepted the position of Shipping Supervisor. He was a member of their elite Quarter Century Club, and remained an employee for 35 years until his retirement in the mid 1990's.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Theresa "Jane" Smith of Largo, Florida; daughter, Connee Re and her husband, Gerald of Marblehead, MA; a brother, John Smith and his wife, Eileen of Hudson, Florida and a grandson, Christopher Re, and his wife Melissa.

Harry lived life to the fullest. He will be remembered by all for his courage, kindness, generosity, sense of humor and fun loving spirit.
