Harry Garabedian, age 78 years, husband of Barbara (Sosnowski) Garabedian with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, died Sunday evening, August 9, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his family. Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Avedis and Varvar (Minasian) Garabedian. Harry was raised in Salem and graduated from Salem High School in the class of 1955. He was a member of the Salem High School Hall of Fame for being one of the all-time Basketball Greats in this City.
Following high school Mr. Garabedian entered the United States Army and served his Country during the Korean War. Upon returning home, he was appointed to the Salem Fire Department where he served for 30 years, retiring from engine 5 as a Captain.
He was an avid golfer at Olde Salem Greens and Ventura Country Club in Orlando, FL. He enjoyed coaching Salem Recreational Basketball and was a big Boston Sports Fan.
Surviving him in addition to his wife are his two children, Scott Garabedian and his wife Cheech of Salem and Michele Buzzi and her husband Andrew of Newtown, CT, his grandchildren Melissa and Doug Garabedian of Salem, Harrison, Rachel and Andrew Buzzi of Newtown, Ct, his sister Rose Gentile and her husband Richard of Salem and his niece Karen Gentile of Salem.
His funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (Cor of North St.) Salem on Thursday August 13, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, 151 Federal St., Salem at 10:00 a.m. Visiting hours at the Funeral Home on Wednesday August 12, 2015 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
