Obituary

Woburn- Harriet Diamond (Gleason), 90, of Salem passed away in the morning hours of Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Windrose at Woburn. Harriet was the daughter of the late Sarah (Trefry) and Edward A. Gleason.

A proud Marbleheader, she was born and raised in Marblehead. She attended Marblehead Schools where she was an avid field hockey and basketball player, and a Girl Scout who loved Camp Shore Lea. In the high school band, she played the clarinet. She then went on to attend Lesley College, where she studied Education. It was at college where she met the love of her life and husband of 54 years, Robert Diamond (2008).

After graduating college, she taught in Springfield before moving to West Peabody where she raised her family and continued her 30-year career as a teacher. She received her Master's in Education at Lesley, where she also taught. Known as the Original Hockey Mom, she was president of the PTO, a Sunday school teacher and a troop leader for both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. In the summers, she would vacation at Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire with her family. Harriet will be dearly missed by all who knew her as a loving person who dedicated her life to her family.

Harriet is survived by: her children Pam Garfield and spouse James of Somerville, Will Diamond and former spouse Cecile of Sunapee, NH, and Tom Diamond and spouse Michelle of South Strafford, VT; her grandchildren Richard Garfield and spouse Janna Kauss, Amanda Blackmore and spouse Stephen, Jeremy Hathorn, Jacob Hathorn and spouse Kelly, Michael Diamond and fiancée Iris Lin, and Matthew Diamond; and her great-grandchildren Sammy, Max, Skylar, Haley, Colby, Caroline, Isabelle, and Julia.

Visiting hours will take place on Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Murphy Funeral Home, located at 85 Federal St. Salem. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 beginning at 10:00 AM at Saint Michael's Episcopal Church, located at 26 Pleasant St, Marblehead, MA 01945. Burial will follow at Waterside Cemetery, located at 294 West Shore Drive Marblehead, MA 01945. All those in attendance are required to wear face masks per order of the Salem Board of Health and CDC guidance. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Harriet's charity of choice, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
