Marblehead, MA – Gregory Richard McNamara, age 51, of Marblehead, Lexington and Gloucester MA passed away unexpectedly on Monday August 22, 2016 at home. Raised in Lexington, he attended St. Sebastian Country Day School and later attended Boston University. He then went to work for the family business, Arlington Coal and Lumber. He married his loving wife Mary (McGrath) McNamara in 1990 at Star of the Sea church in Marblehead. Gregory was an avid boater, skier and golfer and also enjoyed coaching youth baseball and football.
Gregory is survived by his loving wife Mary (McGrath) McNamara as well as his two sons Gregory Jr. and Edward "Teddy" McNamara; his parents Robert and Mary (Kelley)McNamara; his siblings Robert K. and Molly (Walsh) of Lexington, John E. and Lisa (Connell) of Lexington, William F. and Debra (Caston) of Weston, Jeremiah T. of Lexington, and Mary Suzanne of Lexington. He is also survived by his aunt Mrs. Louise Collins of Longmeadow, his father-in-law Vincent McGrath, his sister-in-law Susan Larcom and Robert of East Greenwich, RI, his brother-in-law William McGrath and Kristen (Burke), 16 nieces and nephews and a large extended family. He is predeceased by his mother-in-law Marilyn (Downey) McGrath of Marblehead.
Visiting hours will take place on Friday August 26, 2016 at the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St. (corner of North St.) Salem, MA 01970 from 3 to 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday August 27, 2016 at 10AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 80 Atlantic Ave Marblehead, MA 01945. Internment will be immediately following at Waterside Cemetery, West Shore Drive Marblehead, MA 01945.
