Peabody - Grace Alice Romano, age 91, of Peabody passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7th. Grace was born in Messina Italy on January 27, 1924 to the late Joseph and Mary (Risatano) Giacoppo. She moved to Salem at the young age of 6 and was raised and educated in Salem. She graduated from Salem High School, and attended the Salem Commercial School. She enjoyed better than 50 years of marriage to the late Louis A. Romano.
Grace was employed by Sylvania for many years as a supervisor of their mailroom. After retirement she spent many years wintering in Beverly Hills FL. She was a Communicant of St. Mary's Italian Church of Salem and was well known for her cooking and baking excellence.
11 years ago Grace suffered a stroke but she kept on going, never letting it get her down. She was well cared for by (Pace) Element Care where she stayed active and involved. She continued to be devoted to her family and many friends.
Grace is survived by her daughter Anne Romano and her husband Robert Frizzell of Salem, and sons Frank and his wife Cheryl Romano of Beverly, and Joseph and his wife Darleen Romano of Ossipee, NH., grandchildren Amy Dufour and her husband Tyler of Beverly, Michael Romano of Beverly, Matthew Romano of Derry, NH., Ryan Mulherin of Lynn, Shannon and her husband John Howell and their children Justin and Ella, and a great grandchild Matthew of Beverly. She also leaves her sister Ursula Crowley and her husband Tom of North Andover, and was predeceased by her sister Nina Giacoppo, and her brother John Giacoppo.
Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 10 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor. of North), Salem, MA. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, September 11 at the Funeral Home with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem. For further information please call 978-744-0497.
