IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Giuseppe "Pino"
Quartarone
August 4, 1942 – January 28, 2023
Giuseppe "Pino" Quartarone, 80, of Salem, passed away peacefully on January 28th at Salem Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Messina, Sicily, Pino was the son of the late Santi and Giovanna (Saiji) Quartarone. At eighteen, he and his family crossed the Atlantic by boat and immigrated through New York City to the United States. The family settled in 1961.
Upon his arrival in Massachusetts, Pino got his first job working in the kitchen at Bertini's Restaurant. Energetic and determined, he learned English and eventually moved on to work for Webster Industries, where he would serve more than twenty years. After leaving Webster, he proudly founded Anchor's Fish and Lobster in Stoneham, where he could share his talent and passion for cooking with others. His family will fondly remember large, late night dinners after closing hours in the back of the restaurant. Pino was a prolific storyteller, a jokester, and a gifted gardener. He loved a good party, a good laugh, and he had a rare talent for bringing people together. It was well understood amongst friends that there was always a spot for you at Pino's kitchen table.
Pino is survived by his brother Carmen Quartarone and his wife Peggy of Swampscott, his five children, Tania Skeffington and her husband Edward of Salem, Frank Quartarone and his wife Tania of Groveland, Joseph Quartarone and his wife Anna of Danvers, Donna Skeffington and her husband Thomas of Woburn, Santo Quartarone and his wife Sandra of Salem, and his many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his beloved wife Agata (Zanghi) Quartarone, his sister Rosalia Occhipinti, and his brother Francesco Quartarone.
Per his request, there will be no public services for Pino. His family plans to bring his ashes to Sicily, where he was always at his happiest. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Pino's memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
