Obituary

SALEM – Gifford Pennington Scott, age 91 years, husband of Ann Pierson Scott, died Sunday morning, July 28, 2019 at the NSMC Salem Hospital.  Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey he was the son of the late Daniel G. Scott and Dorothy (Tracy) Scott.   He enjoyed life guarding at the Margate Beach in New Jersey. He entered the United States Army and served his Country during the Korean War.

Mr. Scott graduated from Northeastern University with his degree in Mechanical Engineering.  He started his career with the United Shoe Machine Corporation in Beverly and retired from Harmonic Drive.  Mr. Scott was very active with the Boy Scouts of America in Troop 24 and he was also a member of the Order of the Arrow.  He was a past president of the Deaconate at Dane Street Congregational Church in Beverly for many years.   Mr. and Mrs. Scott had lived on Washington Street in Beverly and in the Willows area of Salem where Mr. Scott enjoyed doing extensive home remodeling as a hobby.  One of their favorite things to do was to camp in the Long Lake area of Maine.    Mr. and Mrs. Scott also owned an antique business, Danbill Antiques in Peabody Square for several years.

Surviving Mr. Scott in addition to his wife Ann with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, are his two sons, Daniel G. Scott and his wife Tanya of Colonial Heights, VA, William P. Scott and his wife Robin of Salem, his grandchildren, Christina Duquette and her husband Robert, Kara, Emily, Jacob, Olive and Gifford Scott, his great-grandchildren Benjamin Duquette and Ally Duquette,  and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Scott's funeral service will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, corner of North St, Salem on Tuesday July 30, 2019 at 1:00 P.M.  Visiting hours will be held prior to the service at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. to 12:45 P.M.   For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA  01923.  For additional information or on line guest book please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com .
