Gertrude E. "Trudy" (Eagan) Tierney, age 87, of Salem died in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston early Monday morning. Her husband of 64 years, John F. "Jack" Tierney predeceased her March 24th of this year.
Born in Salem the daughter of the late George J. and Bridget T. (Hyde) Eagan, she was raised and educated in Peabody. Following her graduation from Peabody High School Mrs. Tierney became employed by Sylvania Lighting on Boston St., Salem as an assembler until marrying, beginning her family and being a stay at home mom.
She was an active parishioner of St. Thomas the Apostle Church where she had assisted the nuns for many years driving them on their charity work and errands. The greatest love in her life besides her husband was her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Tierney is survived by three children John "Jack" Tierney and his wife Caryl of Malone, NY, Robert "Bo" Tierney of Salem, and Richard Tierney and his wife Diane of Newburyport; two sisters Helen "Honey" Berry of Peabody and Grace Condon of Shrewsbury; six grandchildren Jennifer Bosley of Malone, NY, Moira Poitras of Brimfield, MA, Amy Trudeau of Malone, NY, Joshua Tierney and his wife Jennifer, Ryan and Jillian Tierney all of Newburyport and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers George, Leonard "Lenny", and Richard "Dick" Eagan and a sister Mary Carlin, and a great grandson Nathaniel Tierney.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday at 10:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church on the Salem Peabody Line. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 6 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
