Gerard Delaney McGrath 1927-2017
Gerard D McGrath passed away at Sea View Retreat, Rowley, MA in the early hours of Saturday January 28 2017 after a chronic illness.
As the youngest of eight siblings, he was born to Emma (born in Newry, Co Down, Ireland) & Edward McGrath (born in Salem, MA) in Lynn MA January 17, 1927 where he grew up and attended school. He enlisted in the Army from 1945-1946. After military service discharge he devoted himself to his beloved Edna, marrying her on Sept 19, 1954 and worked at the GE as a Laborer/fork truck driver until retirement settling in Lynn with his wife to raise a family. He also helped out his cherished older brother, Edward McGrath, working at his business in Salem MA as a secondary job. He leaves his son, Paul G McGrath, of Salem MA and daughters, Ruth A Barker and Jean L Amirault of Essex MA. He also leaves three grandchildren, Coreen McGrath Grady, Amanda Yutzy and Joseph Amirault behind. His great grandchildren include Amanda Karpenko McGrath, Lillyin Teal, Andrew and Joshua Grady and Caleb Yutzy. Jerry is also survived by his dear sister, Imelda Kelley, of Westford, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry loved his family life and was an avid sports fan, especially favoring the New England Patriots. He so much enjoyed going out to eat at the best local seafood restaurants the North Shore has to offer with his family and was always up for a good laugh. Jerry has a special place in our hearts and will be dearly missed as he was very much loved by all.
