George Armand Furse, PhD age 76, loving husband for 41 years of Jonquil H. (Barry) Furse died at home peacefully Wednesday morning.
He was born, raised and educated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada the son of the late Charles Francis and Grace Eleanor (Sherwood) Furse and received his Bachelor's Degree from the Thomas Moore Institute/University of Montreal in Quebec. Dr. Furse then received his Master's Degree from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada and his Doctorate Degree in Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
For many years Dr. Furse was in private practice as a Psychologist and had served on the staff of Haverford State Hospital until retiring in 1991. An avid writer, he is known for his keen wit and ability to have the proper sentiment and expression for any occasion. At one time he had been a reporter for local newspapers in both Halifax, Nova Scotia and Montreal, Canada. In June of 1993, he and his wife moved to Avalon, NJ where they resided until 1998 when they moved to White Plains, NY. Since 2004 they have lived in Salem near the ocean which he loved and enjoyed.
As a young man, Dr. Furse enjoyed racing and sailing sailboats. He was also a "Renaissance Man" enjoying music, literature especially the classics and history. Dr. Furse also enjoyed theater and had played many roles in local theater for many years.
An avid traveler, he had a passion for France, Italy and Spain where he enjoyed the culture, food and wine.
At the center of his life was Dr. Furse's family which always came first and is known for the traditional Indian meals he would prepare.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Furse is survived by two children, Philip Charles Barry Furse and his wife Donna Lynn Furse of Beverly and Evelyn Jonquil Furse and her husband Russell Dassing of Peoa, Utah; four grandchildren Kellen Joseph, Alexander Charles, Shea Trinity, and Cade George Armand Furse all of Beverly.
His funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by funeral services at 11:00 A.M. in Grace Episcopal Church, 385 Essex St., Salem Ma. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be immediately before the funeral Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home.
Burial will be private.
