Obituary

George Chizinsky, of Beverly and formerly of Beverly Farms, Massachusetts, died peacefully with his family by his side on April 22, 2018 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, MA, at the age of 88, after a long illness.

George was born May 17, 1929 in Springfield, Massachusetts to parents Harry and Anna [Mackler]  He enjoyed most of his life (fifty-five years) with his soulmate - Joyce (Murphy) Chizinsky and raising their two beautiful daughters:  Ariane and Hayley.  All who knew George were lucky to know such a fine gentleman and gentle soul who loved life and his family.

George honorably served his country in the United States Navy as a lieutenant.  He graduated from Brown University with degree in chemical engineering and Tufts University with a Master of Science degree in chemical engineering.   He was a long- time member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma XI. Throughout his life, George was a consummate inventor, entrepreneur and business man who traveled the world with his work.  He had several patents registered with the U.S. Patent Office.

George worked as an engineer at Solid State Products (where he met his future wife), KEV Electronics Corporation and Senior staff engineer at Fairchild Corporation in South Portland, Maine.  He managed sales and marketing for the Tylan Corporation, KHF Corporation and Eaton Corporation. He also served as the Senior Vice President of marketing for Aera Corporation.

His greatest invention was his life surrounded by family and friends.  In 1962, George bought a parcel of land on West Beach where he built a house and lived for forty years raising his family, sailing his sailboat and walking his dogs on the beach.  George was always surrounded by young and old lovers of the ocean and beach.

Seven years ago, George suffered a stroke that caused him to lose much of his speech, but he continued to laugh and smile.  He battled back, returned home and remained with his family, loving their time together.  His strength and determination to return to good health was an inspiration to all who knew him.  He was helped more than a few times by strangers when he tried to walk to West Beach from the Cove during the summer season.  Even in his last years with his declining health, he still lived life to the fullest. Despite the hardships he faced, he remained cheerful and happy with what life had to offer.

George is survived by his loving wife and caregiver Joyce, his daughter Hayley, her fiancé Steven, his granddaughter Holly, loving dog Donna, and many family members and friends.  George is reunited with his daughter Ariane, brother Walter, parents Harry and Anna, and his mother and father-in law Robert and Dorothy Melanson.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be made out to the Holly Poirier Fund, c/o Sovereign Bank, 17 Union St., Manchester by-the-Sea, MA 01944.
