MANCHESTER NEW HAMPSHIRE

George E. Briggs, Jr, age 56, died Saturday February 7, 2015. Born in Salem, he was the son of George E. Briggs, Sr. of Merrimac, MA and the late Betty (Abraham) Briggs. He was raised in Danvers and had graduated from Danvers High School in the class of 1976. He continued his education and earned an Associate's Degree from Bunker Hill Community College and his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.


Mr. Briggs started his career with the National Parks Services at the Customs House in Salem and was stationed at multiple locations throughout the country. While working at Yellowstone National Park, George was involved in restoring the antique stage coaches, snow mobiles and other antique equipment used by the Park. He continued his career with the U.S. Forestry Service at the White Mountain National Forest.

George was an Eagle Scout with Troop 16 B.S.A in Danvers, also a member of Danvers Alarm List Company and was involved with many reenactments of the battles during the Bicentennial. He was also a member of the Second South Carolina Confederate Reenactment Group and participated in Civil War Reenactments. He had also made the banjo that was used in the back ground music for the movie "Gods and Generals".

Surviving him in addition to his Father are his brother and sisters, Janice Hannigan and her husband Stephen of Merrimack, NH, Judith "Jude" Nelson and her husband Clifford of Merrimac, MA, John Briggs and his wife Martha of St. Petersburg, FL and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was also the brother of the late Peter Briggs.

His Funeral will be from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (Cor of North St.) Salem on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, 147 Federal St., Salem at 10:30 A.M. Visiting hours will be held at Murphy Funeral Home on Sunday, February 22, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be held privately.
