Genevieve Sobocinski, 99, of Salem, MA passed away December 31 of COVID related complications. The wife of Raymond Z. Sobocinski (deceased) and daughter of Walter and Frances (Wojtkiewicz) Radzinski, Genevieve was a longtime resident of Salem. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist parish (now Shrine of Divine Mercy) where she was a Lector in both English and Polish. For many years, she laundered and prepared the altar linens and was also active at the St. John the Baptist "bingo"- greeting players by name as she sold the cards. She loved baking and delivered lots of baked goods to the church "picnics" for sale at the bake tables.
In the 1960's, Genevieve and Raymond were leaders in building the St. John the Baptist grammar school on St. Peter's Street and were active in the school while their three children attended
Genevieve also enjoyed volunteering as a classroom book reader to students.
After graduating from Salem Classical High School (1939), Genevieve worked at Sylvania in Salem and married Raymond Z. Sobocinski (Soby) in 1948. She also was employed at Marquis Cleaners on Hersey Street in Salem.
Genevieve and her husband Ray loved to travel well into retirement. They could also be found on the polka dance floor on weekends. She enjoyed gardening as well.
Her joy was always her family. She leaves behind her three children Richard Sobocinski and wife Louise of Chesapeake, VA; Carol Hurst and husband Rick of Westford, MA; and Barbara Sobocinski and husband Michael Hawkins of St. Petersburg, FL. She has four grandchildren Kathryn Sobocinski with husband Mark Nelson of Bellingham, WA; Matthew Sobocinski with wife Meaghan Dolan of Alexandria, VA; Nathaniel Hurst of Shirley, MA and Christopher Hurst and fiancée Janice Carroll of Tewksbury, MA. She was also proud of two great-grandchildren, Aniela and Sloane Sobocinski. She came from a large Radzinski family and her siblings Boley, John, Henry, Stephen, and Alice Radzinski, Jessie Wolkiewicz, and Sophie Romani all predeceased Genevieve as did her sisters-in-law Irene Richardson and Geraldine Agocs. She had many nieces and nephews.
In her last years, she lived in assisted living in North Chelmsford near her daughter Carol.
