Obituary

Gayton Neil Masters passed away Friday, November 20, 2020.  A long-time resident of Marblehead and Salem, Massachusetts, he was born on January 14, 1930 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Albert Gayton and Alice (Porter) Masters.  Gayton attended schools in Marblehead and Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1948.  He later graduated from Massachusetts College of Art in 1958 with a degree in Advertising and Product Design. On September 21, 1963, he married Rosemary Estelle Doucette.  Together, they had two sons and one daughter.

Gayton and Rosemary together led an active lifestyle and were avid skiers, hikers, and sailors.  They shared this love of the outdoors with their children and a large group of likeminded friends at ski clubs such as the Hochfleigers and Boggestow in New Hampshire. Their sailing adventures took them all over the east coast.

Gayton was an advertising executive and held positions at a variety of design, broadcast media, and promotional firms. His professional interests were as varied as his interest in art.

Gayton enjoyed sketching and painting and spent many hours crafting his artwork, which he shared with family and friends.  He was particularly fond of spending time with his long-time friends, children, and grandchildren.  He was a frequent visitor at the Museum of Fine Art and many other exhibitions.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary; sons Peter (Sue), Keith (Kim), and daughter Nicole (Bill); 4 grandchildren; and one nephew.

Funeral services will be private.
