Gage S. (Castle) Maher, age 86, of Salem, widow of the late Edward F. Maher, formerly of Marblehead, died on Thursday, November 3, 2011 in Massachusetts General Hospital, following a brief illness. She and her late husband had shared 38 years of marriage prior to his death.
Born and raised in Marblehead the daughter of the late Everett and Marion (Mace) Castle, she had attended the Gerry School and was graduated from Marblehead High School in the Class of 1942. Mrs. Maher then worked at General Electric during World War II supporting the war effort. She late became employed by Kodak in Rochester, NY until marrying. A stay at home mom, she was a devoted wife and mother taking great pride in her home. Mrs. Maher's sense of style and interior design shone through in her home. . A homebody, she loved being grandmother and entertaining for any holiday. Her great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Maher is survived by two children Kevin Maher and his wife Joyce of Salem and Jacqueline Wajda of Saugus; a sister Joy Lupo of Salem and three grandchildren Carissa Hoffman and her husband John of Peabody, Deanna Maher of Brooklyn, NY, and Adriel Wajda of Peabody and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers Rhett, Jack and Donald and four sisters Constance Hansen, June Littlefield, Alice Madsen and Marion Morash.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at 1:00 PM in the First Church of Christ Marblehead (Old North Church), 35 Washington Street, Marblehead, MA 01945. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visting hours will be in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem, MA 01970 on Monday, November 7, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
