Salem, formerly of Marblehead – Frederick A. McCarthy, age 83, husband of the late Rhonda L. (Hillard) McCarthy, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Frederick and Helen M. (Coughlin) McCarthy formerly of Salem. He was raised and educated in Marblehead and graduated Marblehead High School in the class of 1951. He continued his education and graduated from Boston University with his Bachelor's Degree.
Mr. McCarthy started his career with Deran Confectionary Company in Cambridge. He worked in the Marketing and Graphic Arts Department for the company. He was employed with them for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Jaycees and Republican Town Committee both of Burlington. He was an avid golfer and reader. He was also a member of the Massachusetts National Guard.
Surviving him are his children, Kevin F. McCarthy and his wife Kim of Tyngsboro, Kathleen A. (McCarthy) Czizik of Lincroft, NJ and Shannan A. McCarthy of Tyngsboro, his granddaughter, Kaitlin McCarthy of Essex Junction, VT, his sisters, Irene Johnson and her husband Richard, and Eleanor Hay all of Newbury, his sister in law Eileen McCarthy of Danvers and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his brother Robert McCarthy.
Visiting hours at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North St), Salem prior to the service on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. His Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 135 Lafayette St., Marblehead, MA 01945. Interment will be in the Memorial Garden at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave, Waltham, MA 02451.
