Salem.....
Francis J. "Zee" Linehan, age 83, husband of Kathleen (Jennings) Linehan of Salem died on Wednesday morning in the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Salem the son of the late Timothy and Alice (Langford) Linehan he was educated in Salem schools and graduated from Salem High School. Mr. Linehan then served as a radio operator in the United States Army Air Corps MATS (Military Air Transport Service). Following his discharge he became employed by New England Telephone Co, married his loving wife and they began their family. During the Korean War he was recalled to active duty by the United States Air Force.
Upon his return to civilian life, he returned to the Phone Company, where he was employed for over 40 years from Salem's Norman St., Central Office until his retirement. A member of the Salem Housing Authority he had served as Chairman of the Salem Council on Aging. He and his wife enjoyed their very special friends and close friends in their "Couples Club" with whom they had met with on a monthly basis for several years.
Affectionately known as "Papa Zee", he enjoyed his grandchildren's activities and was frequently seen at soccer games.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Linehan is survived by two children Suzanne Felton and Shawn and his wife Roberta Linehan all of Salem; two brothers James Linehan of McKinlyville, CA and Jack Linehan of Newport Beach, CA; four grandchildren Samantha and Sarah Felton and Courtney and Mary Kate Linehan and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held on Monday at 9:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in St. James Church 161 Federal ST., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Diabetes Association
