Conlon

Francis M. Conlon, age 94, loving and devoted husband of Frances M. (Nykeil) Conlon, died late Monday evening, March 17, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. Born in Salem, Mr. Conlon was the son of the late Michael and Ellen (Cleary) Conlon. He was a lifelong resident of Salem in the Gallows Hill Neighborhood until moving to Beverly with his son Robert and his wife Patricia a few years ago. He attended St. James School and Salem High School. Following his education he went to work at A.C. Lawrence Leather Company. After several years, he entered the United States Army and served his country during WWII. He was stationed with Headquarters Battery and was involved with destroying Buzz Bombs over Brussels and England.
Upon his return from his military service, Mr. Conlon returned to Salem and continued his employment with A.C. Lawrence working in the Paste Department and was with the company for over 25 years. He continued his career with the City of Salem, School Department working at the Phillips and Saltonstall Elementary Schools as a custodian. He took great pride and care in all of his work and retired following 20 years of employment with the City.
Mr. Conlon enjoyed life. He was very devoted to his wife Frances; they were inseparable. They enjoyed their daily walks and swimming at the YMCA and during the warm weather, they would be at Forest River Park every day.
Surviving him in addition to his wife of 64 years are two sons, Robert F. Conlon and his wife Patricia of Beverly and James M. Conlon of W. Peabody, one granddaughter, Erin M. Davison and her husband Ryan and their children Liam and Lucy all of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Rev. John J. Conlon, SSJ, James Conlon, Mary Karydis and Anna Lubas.
Mr. Conlon's Funeral will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem at 11 A.M. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and prior to the service on Monday from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem.
