Frances A (Maher) Gilvey died July 9, 2024, at the age of 94 in Danvers MA. Born in Philadelphia PA on June 27, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ellen (Rumley) Heary.

In June 1950, Frances married George F Maher, also of Philadelphia. They resided In Roxborough and later retired in Cape May NJ.

Upon the untimely passing of George, Frances took a job as a Librarian Assistant at the Cape May County Library. It was there that she met her future husband John A Gilvey Sr of Philadelphia and Cape May. They were married in June 1998.

Frances is survived by her daughter Carol Ann Maher of Salem MA.

Fran, as her friends knew her, was often found at the ocean and beaches of her beloved Cape May. She enjoyed watching birds from her deck and keeping a flower garden. She was adept at quilting and needlework and could be found quilting at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor NJ. Her contributions helped to save coastal wetlands and their ecosystems. She was an avid reader until the end.

A service will be held privately at Murphy Funeral Home in Salem MA. Frances will be buried in Cape May County Veterans Cemetery alongside George Maher, with John Gilvey nearby. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Reading is Fundamental, to improve literacy for underprivileged children, at rif.org.
