Obituary

F. Reed Cutting, age 79, of Marblehead, passed away on May 27th surrounded by his family.


Beloved husband of Katharine (Conway) for 55 years, he is the father and father law of Anne DeLucia and her husband Anthony of Danvers, Elizabeth Brownson and her husband Peter of Colorado, Katharine Cutting of San Francisco, F. Reed Cutting Jr. of Marblehead and his fiancé Rebecca Curran, Richard Cutting and his wife Kim of Salem. His grandchildren Olivia, Nicholas and Jack Brownson and Rebecca and Daniel DeLucia also survive Reed.

He was predeceased by his parents Richard Francis and Anabel (Leavitt) Cutting.

After graduating from Wesleyan University in 1955, Reed then received a Master of Education degree from Colgate University.
Reed was a science teacher for over 35 years beginning in the Nantucket school system in 1956, where he also met his beloved wife Kittie and started his family. In 1960 the family moved to Marblehead where he helped introduce and pilot the Introduction to Physical Science (IPS) course which he taught until his retirement in 1993. The IPS curriculum that he co- developed is still taught in Marblehead and nationally today. Reed also did advanced graduate work at the University of Colorado in Boulder. In 1984 he was awarded the opportunity to participate in the Fulbright program in Oxford, England.


A funeral Mass will be held at Star of the Sea, Atlantic Avenue, Marblehead at 10AM on Friday, June 1st. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 31 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal Street, (cor of North St) Salem,MA. A private Interment will be held for the family following the funeral.
