F. William (Bill) Edwards, age 80, died peacefully at the Kaplan House in Danvers early Saturday morning. He was predeceased by his loving wife Cynthia (Bartlett) Edwards, with whom he had shared 57 years of marriage.

Bill was born in Flushing, NY, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Birkett) Edwards. He spent his early years in Montreal Canada before moving to Marblehead. He is a graduate of Marblehead High School, Class of 1952, where he was an All Star member of the hockey and baseball team.

After graduation he was married and joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Paris, France. Mr. Edwards was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1957 and moved back to Marblehead to begin his family.

He was member of the Philanthropic Lodge F. & A.M. Marblehead, MA, past Exalted Ruler of the Marblehead Elks and past Commodore of the Boston Yacht Club. He loved his friends, skiing, boating, and a good cigar.
Most of all he looked forward to being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by two children, Scott Edwards and his wife Kathleen and Carl Edwards and his wife Diane all of Marblehead, four grandchildren Billy, Jeffery, Jennie and Kyle Edwards all of Marblehead; brother in law Jim Quillen of Marblehead; his brothers Donald and Robert; his sister Libby Ovitt and all his great friends and neighbors on Summer St.

He was predeceased by his beloved sister Barbara Pudvah.

Visiting hours will be held at 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, February 13, 2014 at the Murphy Funeral Home at 85 Federal Street, Salem MA.
A celebration of his life and a burial at sea will be held at the Boston Yacht Club this summer, date and time to be determined.
