Ester Winifred (Hatch) Spurr, 95, of Salem, wife of the late Frederick B. Spurr, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage, died peacefully at her home on August 6, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in Moretown, Vermont on August on August 16, 1911, daughter of the late Estes J. and Sarah Winifred (Dalton) Hatch, she was raised in Salem, MA and graduated from Salem High School.
As a young woman she worked at Sylvania Hygrade, Salem, and later at the Pequot Mills in Salem. Her hobbies included doll making, sewing, and knitting. She was a member of the Senior Bowling League and for a number of years belonged to the Wenham Shindiggers Square Dance Club. Her greatest joy was her family!
She and her husband leave three daughters Barbara and her husband Ronald Edgar of Raymond, NH, Frances and her husband Mario Bartalini of Medford, MA, and Cheryl Fredholm of Walpole, NH. Six grandchildren Suzanne, Cindy, and Anthony Bartalini, Jonathan and David Fredholm, and Nicolas Edgar, and a great grandson Kalib Fredholm and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters John and Maude Hatch, Moro Foster, and Mary Lombard.
Her funeral will be held on Sunday at 12:15 P.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem, MA to be followed by funeral services at 1:00 P.M. in St. James Chapel, 161 Federal St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 4 to 8 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Saugus.
