Salem – Elvera "Vera" (Monaco) Kenney passed away at home in the warm and comforting presence of her family on Saturday, August 18, 2018. She was born in Salem, the daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Ficarro) Monaco. Vera attended Salem schools and was a graduate of Salem High School . She loved music and for several years was the cantor at St. James Church, as well as being a member of their choir.
Prior to her marriage, she was employed at Union Mutual Insurance and Met Life. She was a stay at home Mom and, when her children got older; she went to work for Country Curtains.
She is survived by her husband Edward F. Kenney with whom she would have shared 59 years of marriage on September 5 th . She is also survived by her daughter Maria Gilmore and her husband Wayne, her son Patrick Kenney, her two grandchildren Lauren Anne and Michael Gilmore, who she dearly loved and they cherished their Noni, her sister Connie Lytle, her cousin Nancy Beausoleil, her sister in law Anne Mullin and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother PFC Salvatore (Sam) Monaco USMC, her brothers in law Ray Lytle and Robert Mullin.
The family would like to thank Sarah Byrne Ducharme for her kindness and support as well as the compassionate nurses and aides of Care Dimensions.
Rest in peace Vera, we love you and you will always be with us.
Vera's visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, corner of North St, Salem on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Church, 160 Federal St, Salem at 10:00 a.m. Relative s and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Burial will be held privately.
