Obituary

Elsie (Vieira) Moynihan, 87, a life-long resident of Peabody, died on December 15 at the Kaplan House in Danvers. She was the widow of Robert "Bob" Moynihan, with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage, and was the daughter of the late Gabriel and Julia (Silva) Vieira.

A graduate of Peabody High School, Elsie worked as a bookkeeper at the Borden Chemical and Barney Rabin companies before retiring at the age of 80. She was a life-long parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Salem, where she was a volunteer and minister to the sick for many years. Elsie enjoyed traveling, dining out, socializing with her friends, dancing, crossword puzzles, a "bit" of casino gambling, and an "occasional" glass of red wine. She also enjoyed a good laugh, and always tried to find some humor in a situation no matter what the circumstances were. One of her last requests was to ask that her friends at the "Post" enjoy a glass of wine FOR her, not ON her.

She is survived by her daughter Robin and her husband Bernie Golden, her son Bob and his wife Sarah, grandchildren Patrick and Kendra Golden, Daniel Golden, Ashley and John Coppinger, and Laura Moynihan, a great-grandson Grant Golden, a nephew Gary Vieira, a sister-in-law Mary Vieira, and many nieces and nephews by marriage. She cherished her role as "dearly beloved" great aunt to Jennifer, Elizabeth, and Michael Vieira.  She also leaves behind many good friends including her much loved childhood friend Sally Pereira of Peabody. She was pre-deceased by her brother Edward Vieira and nephew Rick Vieira.

As were her wishes, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. A celebration of her life will take place on Sunday January 7th at 11am at the Portuguese American War Veterans Post No. 1, 103 Tremont St in Peabody, MA.

Memorial donations may be made in Elsie's memory to North Shore Elder Services, 300 Rosewood Drive, Danvers, MA 01923.
