Elsie S. Morse, 87, died peacefully at her home in Salem, MA on January 29, 2011.
Elsie was born in Salem, MA, daughter of Robert F, and Elsie E. Scharnagel. She was a graduate of 1941 Salem High School and 1944 Salem Hospital School of Nursing.
Elsie served with the US Army Nurse Corps stationed in the Pacific during World War II.
Elsie was known for her humanitarian efforts. She was an active member of the First Universalist Church in Salem, treasurer of the Women's Friend Society, President of the Samaritans, a Girl Scout for over 45 years, member of the Women's Overseas League, and Visiting Nurse. Elsie was a volunteer for The American Red Cross, Camp Naumkeag, active in the League of Women's Voters and a Friend of Salem Woods.
Elsie is predeceased by her husband Freeman E Morse and sister Pauline Hanjian. She is survived by her son Edward, daughters Phoebe Hanna and Abigail Mundt and five grandchildren.
Her memorial services will be held at the First Universalist Church in Salem on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made in Elsie's name to the charity of one's choice.
