Obituary

Betty A. (Schuble) Tompkins, age 87 years, wife of the late Woodbury Tompkins, passed unexpectedly at her home on Thursday morning December 10, 2015. Born in Jasper, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Katherine (Hoffman) Schuble.

Following her education, she moved to Evansville Indiana where she started her career as a waitress and enjoyed volunteering as a USO Pen Pal; where she met her future husband. They eventually married and made their home in Salem. They were avid walkers, enjoying visits to the Mall as well as walking downtown Salem and to the Willows. They always enjoyed watching television during the evenings together. Mrs. Tompkins was an avid gardener and enjoyed taking care of her yard. She was also a daily patron at Red's Sandwich Shop.

Surviving her is her daughter, Joi Tompkins of Swampscott and her long time friend Bill Wozny of Lynn, her two brothers in law Charles Calvert and Michael Conner, her sister in law Cheryl Schuble all of Evansville, Indiana, her sister in law Karen Hancock and her husband Leslie of Salem and many nieces and nephews in Indiana and Massachusetts.

Her Funeral will be held from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor of North St) Salem on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2 Margin Street, Peabody at 11:00 A.M. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, December 17, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
