(Hardy) Pollard
May 6, 1934 – December 2, 2024
Elizabeth was born in 1934 in the town of Carbondale, Illinois. She grew up in the small town of St Jose, Illinois. She fondly talked about her time in St Jose; becoming valedictorian at her high school, learning how to drive a pickup truck at a young age and helping to tend to her Dad's fighting roosters.
Elizabeth earned her bachelors degree in nursing from (the St. Louis School of a nursing career in St. Louis Missouri). It was here that she met her future husband, James Pollard. He introduced her to sailing. And they departed from their wedding reception at the Corinthian Yacht Club to a week long trip on a small sailboat on the Cape. This was her first time on a sailboat. She sailed for many years with her husband. However, Elizabeth did admit that she was never too crazy about sailing and she eventually 'hung up her topsiders'.
After they were married, they settled in Marblehead Massachusetts. Where they had three boys: James, Charles and Thomas.
Elizabeth lead a very active life in Marblehead raising her three boys, participated in a walking group, was a member of an investment club, was treasurer of her Garden group and played bridge weekly. Elizabeth maintained a lot of lovely friendships.
Elizabeth leaves her sister Linda, and her husband husband David Weir from Okeechobee, Florida, son, Jim from Newton, MA, son Charles, and his wife Lori from Carolina Shores, North Carolina. Also Grandson Alex, granddaughters Casey, Katie and Jill. Her husband, Jim and son Tom predeceased her in 2012.
Elizabeth had a great love for life and always treated others with kindness. She adored all of her grandchildren and celebrated their triumphs She had a special fondness for dogs. She often spoke of her grand puppy Olive, who adored her. She will be greatly missed by her surviving family and friends.
Calling hours will be at Murphy Funeral Home Salem MA on Wednesday, December 11 from 4 pm to 7pm. A church service will be held at Clifton Lutheran Church in Marblehead on Thursday December 12 at 11 am followed by burial at Waterside Cemetery in Marblehead, Massachusetts.
