SALEM – Elizabeth M. (Williams) Burkinshaw, age 89 years, wife of the late William Burkinshaw, died Thursday evening, November 21, 2019 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a brief illness.  Born in Salem, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late John N. and Irene M. (Theriault) Williams.  She had lived in Salem all of her life and attended St. James High School.  She was a communicant of St. James Church.

Mrs. Burkinshaw was employed with the Massachusetts Welfare Department for many years working as an administrator.  She had a passion for gardening, but, most especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling in her earlier days and was an English history buff.

Surviving her are her children, William Burkinshaw and his wife Carrie of Vachon, Washington, James Burkinshaw and his wife Carolyn of Beverly, Brian Burkinshaw and his wife Maura of Lynn and Christopher Burkinshaw and his wife Jeanne of Lynn.  She was the grandmother of Justin Burkinshaw and his wife Casey of Ipswich, Mary Burkinshaw and great grandmother of Pierce Burkinshaw of Ipswich.  She was also the mother of the late Deborah Burkinshaw, the former City Clerk of Salem.

Visiting hours will be held at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St, corner of North St, Salem on Tuesday November 26, 2019 from 4 to 7 P.M.  Additional visiting hours will be held on Wednesday morning November 27, 2019 from 9 to 10:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James Church, 160 Federal St, Salem at 11:00 A.M.  Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.  For additional information or online guest book please call 978-744-0497 or visit www.MurphyFuneralHome.com .
