Elizabeth M. (Gibbons) Libby, age 77, loving wife for 55 years of William F. Libby, died Saturday January 3, 2009 in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston following a brief illness.
Born, raised and educated in Peabody the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Doherty) Gibbons, she was a graduate of Peabody High School. Mrs. Libby was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph in Salem for several years and later by Ann and Hope in Danvers until her retirement.
Her true passion and pleasure in life was caring for her family. Mrs. Libby was a beloved wife, an adored mother and a cherished Nana. Mrs. Libby was known for her baking, especially her signature blueberry muffins and she always knew how to make the holiday gatherings a special time for all. If she wasn't cooking, her hands were busy knitting and crocheting for her family. She had a passion for jig saw puzzles and always loved a good game of scrabble with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Libby is survived by three children William and his wife Nancy Libby of Danvers, Maureen and her husband Bradley Russell of Plaistow, NH and Michael and his wife Danielle Libby of Salem; a sister Anna Connor of Haverhill; seven grandchildren Megan, William, Suzanne, Evan, Nolan, Daniel, and Alexandra and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother John Gibbons.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, January 15, at 9:00 A.M in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, One Margin St, Peabody on the Salem Peabody Line. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Murphy Funeral Home 85 Federal St, (cor of North ST) Salem.
