Eleanor Gertrude (Hourihan) Kieran, of Salem, died Wednesday evening at Radius Healthcare Center in Danvers. She was the wife of the late Robert A. Kieran.
Born in Peabody May 12, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Mary (McCarthy) and Patrick Hourihan.
Mrs. Kieran attended Peabody public schools graduating from Peabody High School class of 1937. She married her husband Robert Nov. 13, 1948 at St. John the Baptist Church in Peabody. She was retired from Sylvania Electric Corp. in Salem.
Mrs. Kieran was a communicant of St. James Church in Salem, where she was a member of St. James Women's Guild, a captain of the 500 Club and made baptismal robes for the Parish. She was an avid crossword puzzle solver and enjoyed playing cards with her close friends.
Eleanor is survived by her children Robert F. and wife Gloria of Salem, John of Salem, James of Haverhill, David of Gardena CA and Ellen of Salem. She also leaves her grandchildren Margaret Cinella & her husband Chris of Stoneham, Shane & Troy Kieran of Peabody and Kathryn & Jonathan Kieran of Danvers.
Her funeral will be Monday at 9:00 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. Salem, (cor of North St) Salem to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. James Church, 161 Federal St., Salem. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours will be Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the funeral home. Donations in her memory may be made to St. James Church, 156 Federal St. Salem, Ma 01970.
